There comes a time in any story when the arc draws down to the ending. Thus it is with Purlescence Yarns and its story. We began in 2006 with the idea of creating community around beautiful crafting supplies and teaching new skills. We feel that we have achieved that goal. It is now time for us to retire and move on to our next adventure.
On August 28, 2016 we will have our final tea and crafting in the living room. Come and join us if you can, in saying farewell to a piece of our shared history and take a tea cup to remember us.
We have been proud to support the Knitmore Girls since the beginning. We've created community together and supported wonderful things like Halos of Hope and 25,000 Tuques. Keep the magic and keep on crafting.
With love,
Kaye and Sandi Luck

On The Needles:(0:32)

Stash Dash news: Emily and Boston Jen totally won Stash Dash.
Jasmin made progress on her Bifrost Scarf from Infinite Twist, and she is very happy with the autopilot nature of this pattern. She is finding the bicycle clips very useful.

Gigi has attached the sleeves to her Selvedges cardigan.

Jasmin has made progress on the Live Long and Prosper socks. She tells the story of breaking a needle at a Firefly convention and found Unwind in Burbank (closed now, sadly).

Gigi made a swatch out of some beautiful White Birch Fiber Arts  yarn, to see if it would work with one of the patterns from Coffee with C.C.

And she made lots of itty bitty pompoms with the Clover Pompom Maker and sewed them onto preemie hats.

Jasmin is working on the i-cord edging for the Spock sweater and it seems interminable.

Gigi has picked up her Copperplate  #projectsweaterchest,  and needs about an hour of peace and quiet to get to the next step.

Congratulations to all participants in the Ravellenics! Also, we didn't know that trampoline is an Olympic competition.  Gigi mentions The Try Guys.

Contest:(13:54)

Operation Sockdrawer!
Parameters for participating in the #operationsockdrawer contest:

Participants: post a picture to the ravelry forum, or to instagram with the #operationsockdrawer, have your ravelry name on your instagram profile. Feel free to double dip your projects.

Projects will be judged on originality and general delightfulness.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#projectsweaterchest. This is the sweater equivalent of #operationsockdrawer. We want to encourage you to knit yourself a chest full of sweaters. This contest also has been inspired by Susan B. Anderson and her fast forward video of her top 10 sweaters.

We have lots of great prizes to give away. Feel free to double dip with any other KAL.
FYI: The Buffalo Wool Company has their Fall Sweater Challenge from August 1st to October 1st

#elizalong also applies to this contest, since Elizabeth Doherty's  sweaters are polished and functional, and excellent for everyday wear.

Mother Knows Best:(16:50)

This week we answer a question out of the "What do you want to hear about?" thread on the Knitmore Girls forum, about knitting a go-to sweater.

Jasmin reminisces about knitting multiples of the The Incredible, Custom-Fit Neck Down Raglan.

We enthuse about the Ribby-Cardi and the Ribby-Pulli. Gigi remembers doing multiple incarnations of her million dollar dress.

Jasmin has made multiples of the Playful Stripes cardigan and will make one more for Genevieve, and probably one more Little Oak cardigan.

She  likes everything from Alana Dakos and Tin Can Knits. Jasmin is talking about reverse engineering the ribbi cardi to knit it top down. We talk about Cocoknits  and the Katarina cardigan that is has two variations and one is done in one piece. Amy Herzog also suggests knitting a baby sweater to practice technique.

When Knitting Attacks:(27:22)

Gigi has more Knitting Attacks than knitting. Her Selvedges  cardigan has more stitches on one front than the other.

Jasmin's Spock cardigan wouldn't agree to her picking up all the stitches for the edging  at once.
Gigi's Scandinavian socks from The little Box of Socks has a number of issues, too many decreases after the heel, and she didn't keep track of which hand she held which yarn in and this affects color dominance about which Ysolda Teague wrote an article.

Purloined:(32:29)

This week we are purloining Genius and Fail, from the One Bad Mother podcast.
Jasmin mentions mitten clips. Let us know about your Genius moments on this weeks episode thread.

Review:(38:03)

This week we review Enchanted Knits for Dolls, by Nicky Epstein
We mention the Unicorn-Along that we heard about on Yarngasm.

Straw into Gold:(46:50)

Jasmin is still spinning for the Hiro cardigans and is thrilled with the yarn and colors on the Acadia spinning wheel. Jasmin likes the Hiro sweaters that Miliabella, Leslie from the Knit Girllls and Emily from Knitting Butterflies made.

Gigi has been using the Woolee Winder on double drive, and it seems to be challenging, they will put it on Scotch Tension . She is also planning to try out her new Akerworks bobbin.

And Sew On:(52:28)

Gigi and her young friend are making a basic muslin for dresses from Sew Many Dresses, Sew Little Time. Gigi talks about the swayback adjustment.

On The Needles:(0:35)

Jasmin briefly talks about stashdash.
She is working on the Gone Astray cardigan for Genevieve, and is working on the sleeves right now.
Gigi excavated her Selvedges cardigan our of her Area 51.

Jasmin is working on her Bifrost scarf, which is a kit from Infinite Twist, and she is thrilled by the
Clasped Weft Join, which is totally worth the $3 that it sells for.

Gigi is working on preemie hats out of Kroy yarn.

She also has balled up some White Birch Fiber Arts yarn, and wants to swatch before she picks a pattern for socks.

Jasmin is working on the Live Long and Prosper socks .
She is talking about whether to make heels out of the yarn itself of using black yarn for heels and toes. And she is mulling over how to use the yarn for its best advantage for a cardigan for Rex.

She is also complaining on how long the i-cord facing is on the  Spock sweater she is knitting for Rex. We talk about picking up all the stitches on a circular needle, before of knitting the i-cord.
Jasmin has finished the dual facings on Carli cardigan. This technique is from the  Big Book of Knitting.

Jasmin gives her concession speech for #stashdash2016 #teamcuteknitter. Now what remains is #emilyversusbostonjen.

Contest:(17:27)

The point of #operationsockdrawer is to encourage you to start a drawer full of hand knitted socks for yourself.
We were inspired by Susan B. Anderson's Instagram pictures of her sock drawers.

Parameters for participating in the #operationsockdrawer contest:

Participants: post a picture to the ravelry forum, or to instagram with the #operationsockdrawer, have your ravelry name on your instagram profile. Feel free to double dip your projects.

Mother Knows Best:(23:41)

This week we answer a question out of the "What do you want to hear about?" thread on the Knitmore Girls forum, about buying used spinning wheels.

 She mentions blue automotive towels.
Schacht services wheels. We think that cricket looms are excellent for using unevenly spun yarn.

When Knitting Attacks:(32:07)

Jasmin has been working on interminable i-cord on the Spock  cardigan, and it is not smooth.

Review:(36:04)

This week we are reviewing  Crochet Therapy, by Betson Corkhill

Jasmin talks about crocheting Anna and Elsa dolls with Boston Jen that they bought at Stitches.
#letitcro

Since this book deals with therapy, we mention that Dr Gemma  does Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Jasmin mentions the Yarn movie.

We mention Dots, by TinCanKnits. Correction: the blanket is called Pop Blanket.

Jasmin mentions Zen and the Art of Knitting. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Repair has no knitting.

Straw into Gold:(47:03)

Gigi has been making slow progress on her Tour de Fleece spinning, and has eight nests out of 32 left.

We bought a fleece online. Gigi wanted to try spinning a Tunis sheep fleece. We sent it to Sherri at Morro Fleece Works. She called, because the fleece is tender and breaks. We won't be spinning it, we will contact Beth Smith for a good Tunis fleece.

And Sew On:(50:22)

Gigi did a bit of mending. Jasmin has been working on the mermaid doll from a panel
Gigi mentions the Little Red Riding hood panel.
Gigi worked some more on her #whatsasloper.

Also, our #Grinchalong bag templates resurfaced.

She also offers the Custom Fit service and she has three Craftsy classes!
Jasmin mentions Lily Chin.

Straw into Gold:(43:23)

Gigi is still plugging away at her two pounds of her Tour de Fleece Corriedale, but since she can only spin during naptime, progress is slow. There are little fingers that like to  explore things with wheels.

And Sew On:(51:12)

Gigi finished the Advents Calendar stockings. She shortened straps on a dress for Genevieve, and she dug out a top so she can quilt it.

Post photos about where you sit and knit.

When Knitting Attacks:(28:40)

Gigi had managed to put too many stitches on waste yarn for an afterthought heel and had a giant hole by the heel. So she grafted it.

Review:(30:45)

This week we are reviewing Viking Knits and Ancient Ornaments, by Elsebeth Lavold

Jasmin also likes Viking Patterns for Knitting by Elizabeth Lavold. Jasmin also suggests A Beautiful Wreck by Larissa Brown, and Jasmin mentions the Vikings on tv, and Gigi mentions The Vikings, with Tony Curtis and Kirk Douglas.

Tour de Fleece wrap up:(45:20)

Gigi spun some yarn towards a sweaters worth of yarn for hopefully the Helvetica by Elizabeth Doherty.

Jasmin is spinning for a family's worth of sweaters, out of a grey Janet Heppler Merino/Corriedale for family Hiros. Contrasting colors with fiber from Lisa Souza and  Abstract Fiber.  She is spinning this on the Acadia Wheel.

And Sew On:(50:31)

Gigi sewed a muslin for a pair of parachute pants/shorts for Sam.
Genevieve would like to finish sewing the accessories for her mermaid doll.
